Parent Facilitation

Parent Facilitation is a fairly new concept in Texas.  The original design is to help high-conflict couples stay out of the court system.  A couple who has recently divorced or who has gone back to court to re-design parenting plans may be directed by the court to seek the professional guidance offered by a Parent Facilitator.

Studies have shown that children are able to flourish within a restructured family as long as their parents are not feuding.  It is extremely frustrating and frightening for children to hear their parents argue with each other.  It is particularly distressing for children to feel that they are the reason their parents are fighting!

I have enjoyed my assignments from the court as Parent Facilitator because I have seen significant success in working myself out of a job!  In other words, if I can teach a couple how to communicate effectively enough, they won’t need my services, and they likewise won’t need to contract services from attorneys again.  But I am always available if the road gets bumpy again.  Each couple can learn to communicate effectively, compromise reasonably and overall lower the stress for themselves and particularly lower the stress for their children.

Parent facilitation can include setting up meetings for the couple in my office, monitoring emails between the couple, establishing a workable parenting plan for the family, and helping to mediate minor disputes between the couple.
